I’m Amanda, a bilingual journalist from Puerto Rico. I cover health for the Centro de Periodismo Investigativo through Report for America. My recent work focuses on the island’s prison health care system.
Before joining the CPI, I covered politics, science and more for El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico’s largest daily newspaper. Previously, I covered consumer news and wrote subscriber-only content at USA Today.
I also covered agriculture businesses and labor for the nonprofit news site Investigate Midwest as a Report for America corps member.
I hold a master’s degree from New York University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico’s Río Piedras campus.
In recent years, I’ve taught journalism courses at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras and Sagrado Corazón University. I love horror movies and books.
